Boston Globe analysis of more than 750,000 tickets from every police department in the state completed in January 2003, revealed the following patterns:

• Police in Massachusetts write about 1,300 traffic tickets a day.

• The most common tickets are for:
  • speeding
  • failure to stop
  • seat belt violations

• The worst day for tickets:
  • Fridays

• The slowest ticketing day of the week:
  Sunday

• The slowest ticketing day of the year:
  • Christmas Day

• Of the larger cities and towns (pop. over 25,000), most traffic tickets per resident were written in:
  • Watertown
  • Natick
  • Everett
  • Marlborough
  • Woburn
  • Brookline
  • then Chelsea, Boston, and Wellesley.

• The least:
  • Quincy
